Geoffrey Kamworor's Half Marathon World Record Ratified

By Adam Kopet

World Athletics (formerly the IAAF) announced Tuesday that Geoffrey Kamworor's 58:01 win at September's Copenhagen Half Marathon has been ratified as the world record.

The half marathon world record has changed hands several times in the past year. Abraham Kiptum broke ran 58:18 to break the world record at the 2018 Valencia Half Marathon, but he was later banned for an athlete biological passport violation and he lost his record. The record reverted back to 58:23, which Zersenay Tadese ran in 2010.

After his world record run, Kamworor, of Kenya, went on to win the New York City Marathon in 2:08:13. It was his second win in three years.
