Cheroben Wins Copenhagen Half Marathon with World Lead and Enters All-Time List

By Adam Kopet

Abraham Cheroben became the #3 all-time half marathoner Sunday at the Copenhagen Half Marathon, according to the IAAF.

The 25-year old from Bahrain followed up his 12th-place finish in the 10,000 meters at the IAAF World Outdoor Championships last month with a 58:40 win in Copenhagen.

Only Zersenay Tadese of Eritrea and Sammy Wanjiru of Kenya have run faster, with Tadese holding the world record of 58:23. Cheroben's time sits at #4 on the all-time list, with Tadese holding the top two spots.

Cheroben did not run his race alone. He led two other runners, both Kenyans, under 59:00. Jorum Okombo finished second in 58:48 and Alex Oloitiptip Korio finished third in 58:51. Okombo now stands at #6 all-time and Korio at #8 all-time.

Four other men broke the hour mark, making this possibly the deepest half marathon race ever.
